Marvel Tribute Gallery with Fan*Alley Artist Lodge

I had the honor of joining the Marvel Tribute Gallery hosted by Fan*Alley Artist Lodge this May.

I contributed my version of Spider-Ned! Ned was my favorite from Spider-man, Homecoming, and I wanted him to get to be Spider-man for a day.

It was a delightful event full of talented local artists, music, vendors, and cosplayers.

They even had live costumed figure drawing!

I will be participating in their next show this coming September 29th for their Tim Burton/Laika Tribute Gallery. Stay tuned for more details!

Beach-A-Palooza 2: The Art-ening! A Steven Universe Fan Art Show

Poster design and art by the talented Allison Oh (my co-curator). Steven and Connie by me.

I am thrilled to announce that I am co-curating (and making art for) a Steven Universe fan art show at Comic Book Hideout! I am really excited about all of the talented artists who will be participating, as well as meeting more Steven Universe fans. It’s such a great show and it has such a special community of fans. I am looking forward to spending an evening with all those folks.

(P.S. During the opening, we will be hosting a cosplay contest, with prizes you can win!)

If you are interested in participating in the show, we will be taking submissions until Jan. 25th, 2018.  Email me at melissabethrose@gmail.com for details.

N3R0

N3R0 is a character commissioned by a friend, and fellow RPG player. I had so much fun bringing N3R0 to life. He is such a fun character, filled with personality. Please enjoy my work-in-progress and the final piece. Character concept is by Nathan Camp.N3ro sketch copy N3R0 colored wip1N3R0 colored wip2N3R0 colored wip3N3R0 colored wip4

lizard_unicorn

I recently was commissioned to draw a lizard riding a unicorn in a cowboy hat. The idea for this project was originally conceived by a 7 year old girl. This was the theme of her birthday party. The reason that the mother contacted me, was because she was having such a hard time finding party decorations for a “girly/tom-boy.”

The mom wrote this,

“(She) is a funny, active little girl who really enjoys outdoor activities like rock climbing, (climbing anything really), bike riding, catching lizards, frog snakes and bugs in our new city of Miami (we are from Whittier) and generally identifies herself as a tomboy. However, she also, secretly loves lots of what is traditionally considered girly stuff.  She refuses to admit it most of the time, but I know she does.  That is why she came up with this idea.  Along with the lack of lizard items, there is also virtually nothing that caters to the girly-tomboy!”

I thought this was such a great solution to her problem, and it was seriously fun to draw.

To shamelessly plug myself, I would love to do more commissions, so if you have any art-related needs, please let me know!

I have a wide range of skills from everything from drawing and painting to graphic design, comics, storyboards, animation, and sculpture. If you have an idea that you need flushed out, email me at melissa.b.rose2@gmail.com.
